Hey tribes people,
I am starting to try to make a little money with my eggs. I have been selling eggs for eating but am also getting into selling fertilized eggs. I have'nt hatched out any of the eggs myself yet but I have my Delawares set up in a "honeymoon" suite (2 roos to 9 hens). I hate the idea of selling eggs that I don't really know will hatch or not. Do any of you folks have any experience with this and how to know for sure?

I have sold lots of eggs on eggbid and ebay, there isn't always a guarantee, but as a seller you must 'trust' the buyer to be honest with you, if they don't see veining at 10-12 days in the incubator, they must contact you asap. You can then send them another set or have them pay for shipping but not the cost of eggs.

As a basic rule depending on the # of roosters to hens ratio, you can expect about a 70 percent fertility rate. When we hatch a clutch, we usually put in around 30 eggs. We candle after the first week. Remove any that arn't shadowed. Usually our hatch comes out to be 20 to 23 chicks for 30 eggs.
My question is how are you maintaining the eggs at temperature in the mail.

I have Googled how to ship eggs and all I have seen about it is wrapping the eggs in snugly in bubble wrap. Actually, because it has been so cold up here my girls stopped laying so I reintroduced them to the flock. I told the gent who wanted some Delaware eggs to wait until spring. I sold some eggs to some one local. She said that out of the two doz that 22 were fertile, not sure how she fond that out.
        Thank yo for your info!

I normally wont ship eggs for hatching until I have done a test hatch to insure fertility. Once I have determined that I am getting decent fertility I will offer eggs for sale. Due to the way eggs are sometimes handeled by the postal service one really can not guarantee hatching, and most experienced purchasers of hatching eggs know this.. it is when you get a "newbie" that doesnt hatch anything out that the trouble can begin..
