You have LOTS of time to collect and store. And by debrise, she means poop. I wash mine. You can tell if they are fresh by floating them. They have a protective membrane that keeps out bacteria. Karl well to answer your question, in the old days, people used to store their eggs in their cool basement for weeks. The trick is to NOT wash them. If I had more time I would google it for you.. sorry but they are fine to eat remember a clutch of eggs.. momma lays an egg a day for about a month then gets broody, she will then sit and incubate (in our dream world with the perfect hen ; )) . So those eggs left in the nest are fine.. The plan was to leave late Saturday night, and be home not-too-late Sunday night. What actually occurred was, left late Saturday night, and due to an emergency, got home late Monday night. I had overfilled a water basin and food bowl, and left out a large platter of veggie goodies. We called the neighbor Monday morn, and he came over to make sure they still had plenty of food and water, and even brought them some more fruit. When we got home, we had eggs from Sunday and eggs from Monday. They have been laying mid-day, so the eggs from Sunday were potentially in there for a day and a half. How long can they be left there and still be safe to eat?
