My white aurucana bantam has been laying eggs with streaks of blood on the shell.
The eggs are perfectly fine on th inside, but the outside is streaked with blood, not much, as if she was straining to get them out. I also noticed they have become more elongated, more coneheaded, altough the size hasn't changed.
I have no rooster. For the rest she is active, healthy eats well, and is feisty as ever.
Any ideas if I should worry or what causes this?

Re: Blood on the shells
Thu, November 22, 2007 - 8:21 PMI get this from time to time on one of my brown egg layers. I'm not too worried as all of my hens, 9, appear healthy and alert. -

Re: Blood on the shells
Sat, November 24, 2007 - 10:17 AMThanks, yesterday and today the eggs were perfectly clean and more rounded in shape again, instead of ''coneheaded''.
Something completely different tough, can I mix bantams with full sized chickens?
I would like to add two fullsized chickens to my flock, one brown layer and one araucuna. -

Re: Blood on the shells
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 9:30 AMI have a mix of bantams and full sized ladies. I introduce the new birds at night so that there isn't as much fighting during the next day. Don't worry about your smaller birds, they take care of themselves.
