Tue, September 16, 2008 - 1:01 PMthe first thing that came to mind was anything heavily salted, I lost one to rock salt so I'm on hyper alert to all salts

Re: compost and birds
Tue, September 16, 2008 - 9:33 PMI seem to recall that chickens don't like (or shouldn't eat?)
avocado
citrus fruits/peels
paper (which is otherwise fine to compost)
but maybe somebody else can clarify that. (we sort: compost box, things we give to chickens, and things we give to the worm bin)

Wed, March 25, 2009 - 7:45 PMThey don't like citrus, and I've heard that onion scraps make eggs taste bad to some people, though I don't notice this myself. most stuff that they don't like they won't eat. -

Thu, March 26, 2009 - 5:16 AMPotatoe peels, which they prolly wouldn't eat anyway., moldy breads or anything with molds on it shouldn't be given.

Re: compost and birds
Thu, March 26, 2009 - 8:24 AMI threw old oranges out to my goats the other day.
The chickens ran to check them out - then walked away.
I doubt your chickens will be interested in oranges.
What *you* might be concerned about for yourself is having too-fresh chicken manure on that compost bin, when it's needed for spreading on the garden. Might burn out the transplants or transfer 'un-cooked' pathogens.
