...so i posted a while back on whether or not i should put a light on my hens this winter to keep em' layin'. well, we opted to go natural and not put a light in their coop... and they are still laying! we have 9 hens , 2 of which are molting, and we are getting an average of 4 eggs a day. YAY!!!

Re: update on winter lighting issue
Sat, December 15, 2007 - 2:29 PMdo they free range during the day?
My free rangers are still laying an egg a day each, my cooped hens aren't giving me squat, even with the over priced laying pellets and green treats from the house. -

Re: update on winter lighting issue
Sat, December 15, 2007 - 5:21 PMthey have 3 acres of pasture and a bit of forest and a large compost bin at their disposal... so yes, free range. i'm so delighted, tho, cuz i thought egg production would disappear without the light. what a treat. (p.s. hi lisa!!!!!) -
